In the midst of her 6th birthday, she won a surf contest using a run-down board that she found in a trash can outside the house. In the year 2005, she was able to start surfing. She won her very first contest at age 6. By the age 7, she received sponsorship. She was born San Clemente California and later transferred to Hawaii. As a young girl and began surfing, she started and was just about to move away from the state of California in Hawaii. An old surfboard she found in a garbage can outside her house helped Ashley win a contest when she was just 6. Ashley was a participant in the NSSA National Championships at the age of 16. In 2003, she was awarded the Triple Crown Award for Rookie of the Year. Ashley also won other awards, including her National Scholastic Surfing Association title and Professional Surfing Tour of America. Ashley was the 2009 Pipeline Women's Pro winner in Hawaii.
